• Arsenal host Manchester United in one of the most anticipated fixtures of this weekend’s soccer fixtures. The game can be viewed on NBCSN at 11:00 A.M. from the Emirates Stadium in London England.
This week, Arsene Wenger celebrated his 19th year of being an Arsenal manager, but instead of putting the party hats on, it has been a rough few days for Wenger, who appears to be in the doghouse (what else is new). Arsenal supporters have attacked him after the latest setback in the Champions League by losing to Olympiakos 3-2. That result leaves the Gunners to find a way to get into the Champions League knockout stage, but it won’t be easy. Wenger came out after the match and defended his decision to bench Petr Cech and put David Ospina between the sticks. Despite the result against Olympiakos, the Gunners managed to get a 5-2 win over Leicester City last weekend thanks to Alexis Sanchez getting the hat trick. Meanwhile, Manchester United defeated Wolfsburg in the Champions League with a 2-1 score, which saw them get some much-needed momentum. Red Devil supporters are feeling great about the team returning to European football. Heck, they should be happy after last weekend with a 3-0 win over Sunderland, which put the Red Devils in first place in the Premier League. Can the Red Devils hold on to first place? It’s going to be tough since they face Arsenal, Everton, Man City all in the month of October. Despite the fact of this tough October, Wayne Rooney got his first goal of the season and Anthony Martial continues to impress me with his body of work.
Team News: The Gunner faced a huge setback when it was announced that Laurent Koscielny will be out for three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury. Other player inactives include Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini. For Man United, Michael Carrick looks to be alright after a minor injury he suffered during the game against Wolfsburg. Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojos will be doubtful in this encounter.
Series History: Louis Van Gaal had his first away win last year in the fixture at the Emirates with a 2-1 victory, but it was a 1-1 draw in their last Premier League encounter at Old Trafford. Also, the Gunners managed to win in the FA Cup Quarterfinals last with a 2-1 win. Manchester United owns the series with a 77-42-61 record.
Prediction: With United in first place, this will be a game where both teams want to shut their critics up. But a win will be a huge momentum boost, as they go into the Premier League campaign. Arsenal wants the win because of the Champions League loss suffered mid-week. A tough matchup to predict, and I have to say it’s going to be a 1-1 draw.
